ξ 2007 brought Bulgaria into the European Union and into the U.S.-EU trading relationship.
ξ Today, the largest foreign investor in Bulgaria is a U.S. company,
ξ the largest portfolio investor in Bulgaria is a U.S. firm, and
ξ our bilateral trade continues to break records.
ξ The signing of the U.S.-Bulgarian Defense Cooperation Agreement provided further evidence of the deepening of the strategic political and military partnership between our two countries
ξ This year promises even greater trade and investment achievements with a bilateral investment treaty signed in January, and
ξ a bilateral treaty to avoid double taxation on track to be finalized this year
ξ The Bulgarian economy will continue to grow at a 5.5%-6% per year, and corporate tax rates were lowered to 10%.

Aviation Equipment and Services
ξ The total market for aviation, runway systems and air traffic control equipment and services for a short to medium term period until 2008 is estimated at approximately $200 million.
ξ This market is supplied almost entirely by imports, and
ξ is expected to grow over the next two years at an average rate of 27%.
ξ Growth in this market has been influenced by the ICAO and IATA requirements for
ξ sustainable development, quality improvements, safety and security upgrades and compliance to international standards.
ξ The end user market includes 5 international airports,
ξ three of which still owned by the government and operated as commercial enterprises and
ξ two were privatized by means of a 35 year concession
ξ Other end users include the Civil Aviation Administration (CAA), Air Traffic Services Authority (ATSA),
ξ the major international air carriers, and services companies licensed to provide ground-handling activities.
ξ The Sofia airport master plan envisages extension of the existing cargo terminal and construction of a new one.
ξ The total capacity of the new cargo terminal is estimated at approximately 50,000 tons annually.
ξ In 2006, the Bulgaria-based Balkan Hemus Group (BHG), owner of the regional carriers Hemus Air and Viaggio Air
ξ became owner of the national air carrier Bulgaria Air.
ξ Over the short and medium term, demand is estimated to be highest for airport and air traffic control equipment and related services,
ξ for services related to concessioning of airport activities, to cargo handling outsourcing and management,
ξ runway systems improvement, and safety and security equipment.
